Professional cavers to guide you
New: Caving tours in the iconic Céüse cliffs!
The Trou de Sigaud, a secret cavern and hidden treasure of the legendary Céüse, has been explored by cavers since the 19th century.
Perched at over 2,000 meters, it plunges more than 100 meters beneath the cliff face to the monumental “Cathedral” chamber.
This day-long adventure is designed for active participants, featuring an approach hike through alpine pastures, underground exploration, zip-lining, rappelling, and technical sections, for an immersive and memorable experience in the heart of a unique setting.
The Céüse cliff is already legendary among climbers, who flock from all over the world to tackle this impressive and magnificent limestone face. Exceptional routes, a breathtaking panorama, remarkable biodiversity (including rare species), and at the base of the cliff, a constantly evolving forest with a heritage trail (ONF) and numerous hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding routes…
But the cliff still held a wonder as intriguing as it was fascinating: “Le Trou de Sigaud.”
Perched 12 meters below the cliff ledge, a 2-meter-wide, 60-centimeter-high opening leads to a narrow passage that can only be traversed by crawling… At the end of the tunnel lies an unexpected world that stretches deep into the bowels of the Céüse mountain! In this underground world, the first “explorers”—shepherds and curious locals (around the mid-19th century)—as well as speleologists from the 20th century to the present day have discovered, over the decades and with the advancement of equipment, a succession of chambers—including a massive one, “The Cathedral”! Connected by horizontal and vertical tunnels, an underground lake, and stunning geological formations!
In short, a true treasure, until now accessible only to professionals.
But in 2025, the work of the Haut-Alpines’ speleologists was rewarded; they succeeded in equipping the route so that they could finally bring the public there, accompanied by professionals.
Some of our tour operators will offer these guided tours starting in spring 2026. Don’t hesitate to contact them!
This day-long adventure is designed for active and energetic individuals accustomed to outdoor activities, though no prior caving experience is required.
What a joy to be able to help others discover these unexpected wonders, and at such an exceptional site!
