Via Ferrata

The "via ferrata" are sporting routes to cross rock walls through specific equipment: bridges, rungs, monkey bridges, cables ... Individual safety equipment is required (helmet, harness, loins). ! And for novices in this area, we strongly advise the accompaniment by a professional.

It was in 1936 that the first via ferrata equipped for tourism was built in the Dolomites by the Italian Alpine Club.
On the French side, it will be necessary to wait until 1988 to see the first modern via ferrata in Freissinières in the Hautes-Alpes.

Today there are more than twenty sites in the Hautes-Alpes, the vast majority of which are located in the northern part of the department. In the surroundings of Gap, within a radius of 30 to 45 Km, you can enjoy three sites of different levels:

Via Ferrata de La Grande Fistoire - Cairo (41 Km) - Difficult to very difficult

Via Ferrata des Gorges d'Agnielles - Veynes (30 Km) - Initiation

Via Ferrata des Etroits - Saint-Etienne en Devoluy (35 Km) - Progressive route
